Founded in 1997 by Laura Johnson, Coton Colors Company is nationally recognized in the gift and home décor industries. Products from both of its brands are sold through retail stores, wholesale partners, and e-commerce platforms. The brands are carried by over 3,000 fine retailers nationwide, including Dillard’s and Macy’s. The company also partners with other organizations for licensing and corporate collaborations, with past partnerships including Belk, Tervis®, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, and Nothing Bundt Cakes®.

Unique Brand Identities & Voices

Customer data revealed two distinct audiences, prompting a restructuring to clarify brand positioning and reduce confusion. This led to the formation of a parent company, Coton Colors Company, with two sister brands: Coton Colors by Laura Johnson and Happy Everything!™ by Laura Johnson.

I crafted clear and consistent brand messages to communicate this shift across all platforms, tailoring content to resonate with consumers, retailers, and corporate partners. The finalized messaging was adopted company-wide, defining the new brand structure through consistent, on-brand language and look.

Coton Colors’ products include tabletop, decor, and celebratory pieces that cover every season.

Happy Everything!™ is the original interchangeable product concept.

MAGAZINES

After assisting with the 2019 Spring/Summer edition of the Coton Colors by Laura Johnson lifestyle magazine, Toast, I was assigned to lead the 2019 Fall/Holiday edition of Toast. Acting as project manager of the creative function, as well as communicating with other functions, to ensure the success of the seventh edition of Toast. I pitched and wrote content in the form of how-to guides, recipes, storytelling, and more.

CATALOGS

I edited all content for both brands’ catalogs. These proved to be extremely successful as they showed how to style the products in your own home and provided gift ideas. The catalogs were distributed nationwide in print to a segmented list of customers or if they requested a copy. Catalos were also available online with clickable hotspots, allowing customers to shop directly from its pages.

BLOGS

I pitched and managed content for the Coton Colors by Laura Johnson blog, Toast, to further our marketing campaigns and inspire customers through guide-based content.

As part of a two-person content marketing team, I helped define brand strategy and led the development and execution of impactful marketing campaigns. I served as the DTC brand lead for Coton Colors, overseeing email, web, and print content. I also managed social media for Happy Everything!™. I crafted brand-aligned messaging and campaign concepts for both brands, collaborating closely with in-house designers to bring them to life through engaging collateral.

Being a small and passionate team, we worked together to bring projects and ideas to life quickly and efficiently.

As the first dedicated social media role at Coton Colors Company, I brought strategic focus to platform-specific content and audience engagement. I refined each brand’s voice, style, and aesthetic. From the tone of captions to the design of Instagram Story graphics, I oversaw the messaging and look.

This approach helped distinguish the brands as unique identities, attract new followers, and drive measurable growth across key performance indicators, including engagement rate and follower count. I conducted in-depth platform and campaign analytics to ensure performance goals were met and optimized over time.
